Short presentationThe Bécherel theater is a creative and cooperative space located in a small village of 700 inhabitants in Ille et Vilaine. It is a welcoming place that stimulates many initiatives led by local residents and artists: community café, cultural programming, cinema club ...
Contexte (territory issues, targeted audience)In 2017, the municipal team wondered about the future of the local theater (which has hosted a company in artistic residency since 2005): the municipality then launched a study in order to find out what the inhabitants wanted to do with the equipment.
Actions implementedThe theater is proposed to the association EPI (Ecole Parallèle Imaginaire = "Imaginary Parallel School") by the municipality. The EPI collects the rental income (room rental for amateur theater groups, acting classes, meetings, etc.) and the municipality remains responsible for the building (cleaning, maintenance works)
The community café, called “café de la roncette” by the local people is open every Friday; it also receives deliveries from a local market-gardners as well as an organic baker. A purchasing group project is underway. .
The cultural program is decided based on the proposals and votes of the inhabitants: role-playing in the city, the night of the zombie cinema, broadcasting of shows etc.
