Contexte (territory issues, targeted audience)The Isperih region is the second poorest region in the European Union, located in north-eastern Bulgaria.
Faced with climate change and increasing transport costs, more and more companies and individuals are interested in electric cars.
Actions implementedThe “Belectra” electric vehicle technology center was created by a small company in the Isperih region to develop innovative technologies for the development of electric cars.
The Center aims to transform conventional cars into electric cars, produce electronic charging stations and train mechanics. In addition, the company has taken the initiative to organize information meetings with public institutions to discuss how to optimize their car parks, leading to improved public services. Awareness-raising activities are also carried out to inform the population and in particular young people and the public authorities on the advantages of electric vehicles.
Five charging stations were built between March and September 2015 in the cities of Varna, Plovdiv, Shumen, Burgas and Belogradchik.
The company plans to gradually occupy at least 60% of the market for electric vehicles and 70% of the market for charging stations in the region.
Three new jobs were created (two mechanics and an administrator).
More than 1000 residents of the municipality of Isperih have been made aware of electric mobility as a modern solution for health and environmental protection and a way to create a contemporary and attractive image of the region.
