Atchoum, proximity carpooling solution

France Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Short presentation

To fight against "autosolism" particularly developed in rural areas, the community of Forcalquier-Lure municipalities wished to experiment with a solution for facilitating local carpooling proposed by the company Atchoum (
This platform for connecting drivers and passengers, via a smartphone application and a telephone call center, offers a united mobility solution, accessible to a public not familiar with computers and mobile telephony

Experiment with an alternative mobility solution in rural areas, suitable for all audiences and all types of local travel.

Contexte (territory issues, targeted audience)

Atchoum connects passengers with drivers on regular trips (home-work) or willing to offer on-demand support on specific trips (to facilitate access to shops, health or employment).

Actions implemented

The IT solution developed by Atchoum in 2015 connects passengers (all public, active, elderly, young people ...) and registered and identified drivers (active or young retirees available and looking for social utility), to offer solutions adapted to the rural environment. It combines a punctual or regular carpooling formula (home-work, events, etc.) and a transport-on-demand formula, in particular suitable for isolated elderly people (care at home for trips to access various services).

This experiment is underway with the support of the South Region and the Adème, as part of the call for projects "alternative mobility solutions in sparsely populated areas" of which Atchoum was the winner in autumn 2019.

The project also provides a communication and animation system in the field, essential for the start of the project, to ensure the best response from residents. This will be boosted in the field by the intervention of 2 young volunteers in civic service, recruited for 6 months with the support of the InSite association, in a global mission to raise awareness of sustainable mobility.

This solidarity mobility solution has earned Atchoum the label "ESUS approved social and solidarity economy enterprise" and forged partnerships with around a hundred municipalities across France (in 2020, there were had 100 member municipalities located in 10 different departments).
